Survey 2001...
Willing to discuss it with children
According to a Léger Marketing survey on the way Québécois view child sexual abuse and violence, 90% of respondents indicated they agreed with prevention targeting 4 to 12 year-old children “because it is important to inform them, that prevention protects them” (31%) or “with prevention tools designed for their age groups” (59 %). Only a small minority (6%) were opposed, fearing that it encouraged children to make up stories. However, Québécois were more divided when it came to identifying the most effective prevention method:
- 28.8% preferred prevention targeting children.
- 24.4% preferred parental education programs.
- 21.4% opted for punishing assailants more severely.
- 91% stated they would immediately report assailants to the authorities (the police or the Youth Protection Authority).
