Financial aid grantedThe following organizations received financial aide from the Foundation in 2008: La Fondation de la Visite. Operating in six neighborhoods around the island of Montréal, this foundation is devoted preventing negligence and abuse by encouraging good parent-child relationships. Among the services offered: home visits and support for families with newborns, telephone consultation, rest periods for parents, physical, affective and informational support, immigration services, professional insertion and study aides. La Traversée, has been operating on the south shore of Montréal for 20 years, offering evaluation and therapy services for sexually abused women and children. In 2005, La Traversée implemented a violence prevention program entitled “Prévention de la violence et Philosophie pour enfants” aimed at elementary children and their teachers. Le Centre d’intervention en abus sexuels pour la famille, located in the Ottawa valley region, offers workshops for victims of abuse aged three to 12 and their families. The workshops are designed to help minimize the effects of abuse by providing children with the tools they need to face risky situations, break the silence, remove feelings of guilt and rebuild their self-esteem. Safrie, in Sherbrooke, provides aide to immigrant and refugee families and their children. Financial support from the Foundation goes to the program “Dénonçons et condamnons l’inceste à l’égard des enfants défavorisés!” which is aimed at breaking the silence, sensitizing families to the consequences of incest and informing them of the judicial process. Répit-Providence Maison Hochelaga-Maisonneuve was created in Montréal in 1995 to offer parents the support they need to fulfill their roles as parents. Operating in collaboration with social workers, this organization provides short-term “friend’s room” housing for children five and under. The program offers an environment that helps prevent negligence of children while easing the suffering of families who are experiencing temporary fatigue or going through a period of crisis. Le Centre de prévention des agressions de Montréal. Founded in 1984, Le Centre offers a wide range of workshops on aggression prevention designed specifically for children, teens, women of all ages and those suffering from physical and/or mental handicaps. All of the programs focus on the development of the capacities and resources needed to help people face difficult and dangerous moments in their lives. La maison des enfants de l’île de Montréal welcomes children aged five to 12 from the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough after school hours. In addition to providing a school-wide mail service, La Maison encourages the full development of children within society, in collaboration with teachers and parents, while sharing its approach with parents. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Saint-Hyacinthe, in the Montérégie, pairs volunteer adults with kids from six to 18 who need a significant presence in their lives. The relationship between adult and child is formal, and is based on the concept of mentorship, with an emphasis on building self-esteem, developing social skills and adopting healthy life habits. |
